Overall, I enjoyed reading Three Cups of Tea. The book is very insightful and I learned a lot of information about the Middle East. I realized after finishing Three Cups of Tea that I had not known much about the Middle East. Most of what I did know had come from news stories pertaining mostly to the war and terrorism. It is so easy to become prejudice when one doesn't know much about the topic.
Greg Mortenson has to be the most dedicated and driven person I have ever heard about. The work that Greg has done has impacted so many people for the better. It is amazing that Greg has done so much. Greg stumbles into the town of Korphe when he is lost and this changes his life forever. It is amazing how certain events can take one's life in a completely different direction.
Greg workes extremely hard but has a lot of difficulty raising the money for the Korphe school. When Jean Hoerni comes into the picture everything changes. He donates the money for the school and later establishes the CAI. Jean's idea for the CAI is absolutely brilliant. This allows Greg to continue to live his dream and helped and continues to help children in the Middle East through the CAI.
Before Three Cups of Tea, I didn't know that one of the main reasons for terrorism was lack of education. Greg's schools have impacted so many children and provided them with tools they need to succeed in life. The children in the Middle East wanted to learn so badly but never had the resources to do so. This makes me realize how much I take school for grant it. Since school has always been present in my life, I can not imagine what it would be like to be uneducated. This book has taught me to further appreciate the education that I am receiving.
Greg Mortenson truly deserves all of the recognition he has gotten. He has impacted so many people and has improved their lives. He always thinks of others before himself and is truly selfless. His wife Tara is also amazing for the fact that she lets Greg travel into dangerous places and supports him fully. I wish Greg and all the Middle East members of the CAI the best of luck in continuing their hard work to better children's' lives.
